MVCC Channels 24/7
The four MVCC channels received a significant upgrade in the fall of 2018, when the channel playback system adopted the Cablecast media platform by Tightrope Media Systems. In addition to high definition on-demand video capability, the software streamlined the computer programming required to schedule a full day of television across the four channels. This has allowed for more programs to be scheduled, and that improvement is significant; Government Access Channels 5 and 6, Community Access Channel 991 and Educational Access 21 cablecast 24 hours a day. The last program of the night typically airs at 3-4am, before the new day begins (often with the National Anthem at 6am).
Airtime between shows plays an important role too; MVCC creates Public Service Announcement (PSA) screens for city government to promote events and classes, and offers this service to non-profit organizations and community groups as well – all at no charge.
The MVCC programming team of Ray Gambrel, John Golub and Mike Sopronyi are responsible for scheduling nearly 30,000 hours of shows each year, in addition to PSA screens, live council meeting production and channel promotion. Schedules and on-demand viewing can be found at mvcc.video
